Civil War Buttons

Buttons From Union and Confederate Soldiers Uniforms

Uniform buttons fall into four main categories as far as Civil War button collections are concerned. There are the United States government buttons, the buttons of the Union states, the Confederate States of America government buttons and the states of the Confederacy buttons. The state's buttons, usually with the state's official seal, are very desirable for collectors. The many different buttons of the Civil War states are a literal gold mine for collectors and resellers alike.

In both armies the different branches of service had there own button design. The Union Army, Navy, Marine forces as well as the support branches all used the American eagle in the design of their buttons. Most of the official Union, as well as the Confederate, buttons had the manufactures name inscribed on the back.

Confederate States of America buttons are a varied lot and are quite rare and in great demand for collectors and sellers alike. Many Confederate Uniform buttons use the American eagle in their design much like the Union Army. The Confederate military branches are represented as well.

A Civil War button collection is a piece of our United States history. It is a fun, and many times profitable, hobby or business. Here at our Civil War Relics pages you'll find these, and more, genuine artifacts at very reasonable prices.
