Battle of Gettysburg 2010 Reenactment


 

It's getting close to that time of year. The battle of Gettysburg annual reenactment will be coming up starting Friday, July 2nd and lasting thru Monday, July 5th. This is always one on the biggest reenactments of the year and 2010 is no exception. Extensive battles will be reenacted every day with large artillery and mortar fire included in every show. An entire village will be dedicated to living history presentations and activities galore including youth oriented fife and drum lessons. Of course, it goes without saying there will be separate Union and Confederate camps. There will also be a camp for military dependents and other civilians.
 
The battles to be reenacted are:
Friday - The federal delaying action know as Battle at the Brickyard will be held on 6:00 PM.
Saturday - 11:00AM the cavalry battle Victory at Last and 6:00PM The Wheatfield - Harvest of Death will be reenacted.
Sunday - Another cavalry battle : Battle of Hunterstown - Setting the Trap can be seen at 10:00AM. A presentation at 3:00PM that promises to be different will be from a part of Pickets Charge and will be called The Carolina Scholars and Connecticut Yankees.
Monday - Wrapping up the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg Reenactment will be the famous Retreat From Gettysburg reenactment at 1:00PM.
 
A large sutlers village will be near the battlefields. There will be Civil War Living Histories, Civil War music, fashion shows and more on all days for your entertainment. Registration by mail ends June 1st, 2010. A $20.00 fee for walk-ons will be charged.
 
Gettysburg is rich in history and very well the most famous small town in America. The Battle of Gettysburg Reenactment weekend draws huge crowds of spectators so it would be a good idea to book your accommodations as soon as possible.
