If a person wants to educate themselves about the Civil War and the Restoration era that followed, books are the primary source of learning. With any period in American history the learning of historical events begins in the classroom. However not everyone had that opportunity. Or else it has been many years since they were in a learning environment and just want to refresh their memory. In any case books are the key to learning.
There have been hundreds of books written on the American Civil War. For factual information educational history books would be the way to go. Keep in mind the depth of the information would depend on the level of education for which they were written.
