Whether it be a Confederate or Union Flag You'll Find It Here

The flags of the Civil War were more than just different and colorful pieces of cloth. Whether it be the Confederacy or the United States their respective flags were symbols of everything they stood for. The flags rallied the divided citizens to their cause. People on both sides were displaying flags at their homes, at work and even on civilian clothing as a show of support.

In the beginning of the war there were as many different Union flags as there were individual militias. Militias from many of the communities of the United States designed their own flags to rally around. In 1861 the US Army revised the regulations regarding the United States flag and required all infantry units to carry two flags, a national flag and a regimental flag.
The Confederate flag was a different story. Before the actual formation of the Confederate States of America, and the adoption of the Stars and Bars, each seceding state designed their own flags. This was their way of showing their independence by abandoning the Stars and Stripes of the United States.
