A Civil War Picture is Worth A Thousand Words

The collecting of Civil War pictures and photographs is a satisfying hobby indeed. To the collector, old war photographs are a way to put a face on history. Looking at a picture of a Civil War soldier gives one a personal look at an individual who was actually there. Someone who lived in the field and either lived or died in one of the great Civil War battles.

The most photographed soldiers of the war were, of course, the generals and other famous officers and leaders. Pictures of Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis would be at the top of that list. To view actual photographs of Union and Confederate officers and the soldiers they lead into battle gives an intimate look at the individuals involved in the war.

In your search for Civil War photos be advised that you will come across some pretty gruesome pictures. You will find pictures of the battlefields strewn with the bodies of the fallen soldiers. Civil War prison photos are pretty graphic as well. This era was not an easy life and the pictures of war emphases that fact.

You’ll find photographs using the daguerreotype, tintype, ambrotype and Carte de visite (CDV) processes here in the Civil War Relics section of Civil-War-Costumes.com online store. We have a continuously updating inventory with unbeatable Internet prices. Please bookmark us and come back often!
